What is an Animal Health Certificate (AHC)?
An Animal Health Certificate is an official document which is required for pet travel (dogs, cats, ferrets) to and from the UK and the EU. The AHC must be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) between 1 and 10 days prior to travel and entry into the EU. The AHC is valid for one journey, to and from Europe (provided the return journey is completed within 4 months). In order to travel to the EU, pets must be microchipped and fully vaccinated for rabies, and at least 21 days must have passed since the vaccination.
An AHC is only valid for travel to and from the EU. If you are planning to travel to a country outside of the EU, a different type of certificate called an Export Health Certificate is required. Export requirements differ significantly from country to country outside of the EU.
How our AHC service works
1. Check your pet can qualify
Is your pet microchipped?
Has your pet had a valid rabies vaccination?
If you answered yes to both of these questions, your pet is likely to be eligible for an AHC.
If your pet has never been vaccinated for rabies, or the rabies vaccination has lapsed, they must receive a rabies vaccination from their vet and wait 21 days prior to travel.
2. Fill out our booking form
Fill out our booking form with some details, and I will get back to you within 24 hours.
We will send you a link to an online pre-appointment form for further details regarding you and your pets travel. This will need to be completed as soon as you can to allow for the certificate to be issued.
We will need to contact your current vet for your pets rabies vaccination history and to check everything is up to date, which will allow us to pre-prepare your certificate.
3.AHC delivery
An appointment is required between 1 and 10 days prior to your travel for the AHC to be finalised and to check your pet. This can be at a time and place that is suitable to you, either delivered to your home or a location of your choice.
Your pet must be present for this appointment, and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes.
Your AHC will then be issued and you will have up to 10 days to enter the EU.
